An Arduino-form-factor shield built around the Texas Instruments ADS1292R, a 24-bit analog front-end for ECG and respiration measurement. Stack the shield onto an Arduino, connect the cable and electrodes, and you can stream ECG and respiration data in real time. Version 2 adds the ICSP SPI header for compatibility with newer Arduino variants, including the Arduino Yún.

A 3.5 mm stereo jack accepts a two-electrode ECG cable plus a third Driven Right Leg (DRL) electrode for common-mode noise reduction. The ADS1292R also measures respiration through impedance pneumography — small changes in chest impedance during breathing are translated into a respiration waveform on the same channel.

Features

  • Texas Instruments ADS1292R 24-bit AFE for ECG and respiration
  • Arduino-shield form factor with ICSP SPI header (compatible with Uno, Mega, Yún, and newer variants)
  • Single-lead ECG with optional Driven Right Leg electrode
  • Respiration measurement via impedance pneumography on the same channel
  • On-board 3.3 V low-noise regulator
  • On-board logic-level translators for Arduino-compatible interfacing
  • Prototyping area for additional components

Important notice

This device is not a medical diagnostic instrument. It is intended for evaluation, education, and research only.

Safety

When connecting electrodes to the body, ensure the host computer is running on battery power, not mains. This avoids any direct electrical path between mains earth and the user.
