The ProtoCentral ADS1293 Breakout is a 3-channel, 24-bit ECG analog front-end built around the Texas Instruments ADS1293 — a low-power AFE designed for portable and wearable cardiac monitoring. It gives you a complete ECG signal chain on a small board you drive over SPI from an Arduino, ESP32, Raspberry Pi or any other microcontroller.
Two 3.5 mm jacks take the supplied snap-lead electrode cables, so you can be recording a real ECG trace within minutes of unboxing — no electrode wiring to solder, no instrumentation amplifier to design, no analog filter chain to get right.
New in revision v2
- Runs from 3.3 V or 5 V — supply and logic, with no jumpers to set. The v1 board needed solder jumpers to select logic level; v2 accepts either rail directly.
- Electrode assignments printed on the board. RA, LA, LL, RL, V1 and IN6 are silkscreened next to the jack pins they belong to.
- Four plated mounting holes on the corners, for enclosures and stacked assemblies.
- A SYNC pin and a CLK OUT/IN pad for running several boards from one clock, synchronised.
- One solder jumper instead of four — CONN selects whether the shared input goes to IN6 or to the Wilson Central Terminal.
Features
- Texas Instruments ADS1293 analog front-end
- Three simultaneously sampled, 24-bit ECG channels
- Fourth analog channel for pace-pulse detection
- 0.3 mW per channel
- On-chip right-leg drive amplifier and Wilson Central Terminal generation
- AC and DC lead-off detection
- Onboard 4.096 MHz crystal, or clock the board externally through the CLK pad
- Onboard level translators — safe to drive from 3.3 V or 5 V logic
- Two 3.5 mm jacks for the supplied electrode cables
- SPI interface
Pinout
| Pin | Function |
|---|---|

| VCC | Supply, 3.3 V to 5 V |
| ALARM | Alarm / interrupt output |
| SYNC | Multi-board synchronisation |
| RST | Reset, active low |
| CSB | SPI chip select, active low |
| SCK | SPI clock |
| MISO | SPI data out |
| MOSI | SPI data in |
| DRDY | Data-ready output |
Upgrading from v1? The v2 header is 10 pins and is not pin-compatible with the 12-pin v1 header. WCT and CLK are no longer brought out to the header, and a SYNC pin has been added. The Arduino library is unchanged — only your wiring is.
What’s in the box
- 1 × ADS1293 breakout board (v2)
- 2 × 3-lead snap electrode cables with 3.5 mm plugs
- 10 × disposable stick-on ECG electrodes
- 1 × 10-pin 0.1″ header strip, unsoldered
