Helpful Documentation
The MAX30003 is a single-channel biopotential analog front-end (AFE) optimized for ECG. Built-in R-R detection and pace detection are computed on the chip itself, so heart rate is available without microcontroller-side filtering — a strong fit for low-power wearable cardiac monitoring.

Features
- Maxim MAX30003 single-channel biopotential AFE
- Single-lead ECG monitoring (2 electrodes; no right-leg drive required)
- Built-in R-R and pace detection (Pan–Tompkins-style on-chip)
- 18-bit ADC with high DC offset range — tolerant to motion artifacts
- Low power — as low as 85 µW at 1.1 V, ideal for battery-operated wearables
- On-board 32 kHz crystal for ADC clock
- On-board 3.3 V low-noise regulator
- 5 V-tolerant logic-level translator for direct Arduino interfacing
- Works with ProtoCentral OpenView, our unified visualization application
Important notice
This device is not a medical diagnostic instrument. It is intended for evaluation, education, and research only.
Safety
When connecting electrodes to the body, ensure the host computer is running on battery power, not mains. This avoids any direct electrical path between mains earth and the user.
