The ProtoCentral TMF8829 breakout pairs the ams OSRAM TMF8829 multi-zone direct time-of-flight (dToF) sensor with on-board QWIIC connectivity for plug-and-play wiring with the SparkFun ecosystem. The sensor streams a full depth image — 1,536 zones (48 × 32) at up to 15 fps — from a module smaller than a thumbnail. Two integrated VCSEL emitters (Class 1 eye-safe) give it an 80° field of view and ranging out to 11 m.

Getting started

The board talks I²C over the SparkFun QWIIC connector (or the 4-pin header) and also exposes a full SPI interface on the second header. A JP1 jumper selects the sensor I/O level — 3.3 V (default) or 1.8 V — while the host side runs from any 3.3 V or 5 V microcontroller through on-board level translation. Open-source Arduino and Python drivers and wiring examples are linked in the Documentation tab.
