BLE Streaming

Legacy guide — no longer updated

BLE Streaming Mode sends real-time signals from the HealthyPi 5 to a phone or tablet over Bluetooth Low Energy. The OpenView 2 mobile app receives the data and displays it on the phone — no host computer needed.

BLE is the right choice for portable or wearable use, demos, or any setup where you can’t leave the device tethered to a laptop.

Requirements

  • HealthyPi 5 (any kit)
  • USB-C cable for power (not included), or a charged 3.7 V LiPo battery
  • Android or iOS phone / tablet

Steps

  1. Install OpenView 2 on your phone:
Get OpenView 2 on Google Play
Download OpenView 2 on the App Store
  1. Turn on Bluetooth. On Android, also enable Location — Android requires Location permission for BLE scanning.

  2. Open the app and tap Scan. OpenView 2 can connect to several ProtoCentral devices — pick HealthyPi 5 from the discovered list.

  3. After connecting, vitals stream live to the app.

Battery vs USB

BLE streaming has very low power draw — a LiPo battery will run the kit unattended for hours. USB is only needed for charging or as a backup power source.

Next

  • To record the BLE stream to a file, see Data Logging — OpenView 2 can log directly to your phone or to the device’s SD card.
  • For a wired alternative, see USB Streaming.
