Operating Modes
Data Logging
HealthyPi 5 can record signal data to three different destinations. Pick the one that matches how you plan to retrieve the recording later.
| Destination | Capture device | When to use |
|---|---|---|
| Log to App | OpenView 2 mobile app | Phone-tethered sessions; data stays on the phone |
| Log to Computer | OpenView 2 desktop app | Bench / desk work, longer captures, deeper analysis |
| Log to SD Card | On-board microSD | Truly unattended recording without any host device |
All three are controlled from OpenView 2 (mobile or desktop) and produce CSV files containing ECG, PPG, and respiration traces.
Requirements
- HealthyPi 5 (any kit)
- USB-C cable for power (not included)
- For SD logging: a microSD card (not included) inserted into the slot on the underside of the main board
Log to Computer
Use the OpenView 2 desktop app. Steps are the same as a normal USB session — just click Start Logging before or during the stream. See USB Streaming for the full walkthrough.
Log to App (OpenView 2 mobile)
-
Install OpenView 2 on your phone (links and prerequisites in BLE Streaming).
-
Tap Scan to discover the HealthyPi 5, then Connect.
-
Tap Log to App (left side of the stream view). Recording starts immediately.
-
To stop, tap Disconnect. The CSV file is saved to your phone’s app storage.
Log to SD Card
This mode is the most powerful — the HealthyPi 5 can keep recording even after you disconnect the phone.
Start a session
-
From the OpenView 2 mobile app, tap Connect next to your HealthyPi 5.
-
Tap Log to SD Card (left side of the screen).
-
To stop, tap Stop Logging. The app returns to its main page.
Keep logging after disconnecting the phone
If you want the device to keep recording while you walk away with your phone, tap Disconnect and choose Disconnect & Continue in the dialog. The HealthyPi 5 keeps writing to the SD card on its own.
When you come back and reconnect, tapping Log to SD Card ends the previous session and starts a new one.
Retrieving logs from the SD card
Option A — fetch over BLE. Reconnect from the app, tap Get Logs, pick the file from the list, and tap Download. The transfer progress shows in the app.
Option B — pull the card. Power the device off, remove the microSD card, and read it directly with a card reader. The CSV files are at the root of the card.
When fetching logs over BLE, keep the phone close to the device — log files can be large and the transfer takes longer when the link is weak.
